Explain Like I'm 13

About

Hi, I’m Chesong, proud dad of a bright, curious 6 year old daughter (and any future kids who may come along!). I created this site for her, and by the time she turns 13, she’ll be starting to navigate the exciting yet challenging journey toward adulthood.

This site is a collection of life lessons, thoughts, and experiences I’ve gathered over the years—things I want to pass on to her, things I wish someone had told me when I was growing up, and things that matter most when navigating life’s twists and turns. While I can’t be around forever, this site will be here to guide her and her siblings when they need a little wisdom from Dad.

I took inspiration from the ‘Explain Like I’m 5’ concept because I love how it simplifies complex ideas. But let’s be real—some things are just too tough to break down for a 5-year-old! By 13, you’re ready for deeper conversations and have probably already faced your fair share of challenges. Plus, you can read this site without needing an adult to supervise you. 😉

To my kids:

You and your mom are my world, and I couldn’t be happier to share my life with you. There are only two things I want for you: to be happy and healthy. Nothing else matters. You don’t need to fill anyone’s shoes, and I have no desire to live my dreams through you. Be yourself, and I’ll support you in whatever way I can.

If you’re reading this, then this site is for you. There’s so much I want to share, but life is too big to capture it all here. What you’ll find are the lessons I’ve learned, the things that sparked my curiosity, and the values I hope will guide you. No matter where life takes you, I hope this helps you make sense of the world and know that I love you beyond words.

Love always, Dad
